Hello and welcome to Help Kids Read! Our goal at Help Kids Read is to help children from less fortunate families improve their reading skills and capabilities. We do this by inviting volunteers aging from middle to high school to come and read with the children. This provides an older sibling type of experience for these children and helps them learn in a much more relaxed environment.
We are a drop-in program, so feel free to come in whenever you feel like volunteering. We and the children really appreciate you coming, you are making a difference in their lives. It takes a lot to sacrifice your time for someone else, and we really value that. We hope to see you soon.

Want to Volunteer?
We have Kids Read at The View Teen Center every Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30.
Address: 263 Escuela Avenue, Mountain View, CA 94040
Volunteers should come 15 minutes early if it is their first time, to get a short introduction to the program and their task. Children and teenage volunteers will be paired up. We will do our best to pair everyone up 1 on 1, but depending on how many people show up, we may have to group people together. Start the session by having your child you were paired with pick out 3 to 5 books to start. You can always come back for more if you need to.
Have the child read if the can, or if they are still learning, you can help them read through the book. If the child cannot read whatsoever, you can read to them. Try asking them questions about the plot, characters, or any questions they have. Just try to be supportive and nurturing with them. Thank you so much for doing this!
